We're excited to launch our new blog, your destination for everything related to Excess Catamarans, sailing adventures, and the cruising lifestyle. As California's exclusive Excess dealer, we've been privileged to introduce countless sailors to these remarkable performance cruising catamarans, and now we're creating a space to share those stories, insights, and the latest news from the world of multihull sailing.
If you're just getting started, explore our Excess model overview and ownership resources to understand how each article connects to real buying and cruising decisions.
Why Excess? Why Now?
After years of representing the Excess brand and watching the sailing community's enthusiastic response, we realized there's a need for more than just sales conversations. Sailors want to learn, connect, and share their experiences. Whether you're considering your first catamaran or you're a seasoned multihull sailor, this blog is for you.
What drew me to Excess was the promise of not having to compromise. I wanted a
boat that could handle the Pacific's conditions but also be comfortable enough
for extended cruising with family. The Excess 11 delivers on both fronts, and
Sail Pacific made the entire journey seamless.

Our West Coast and Pacific Connection
Being based in California gives us a unique perspective on the Excess range. The Pacific can be demanding—strong winds, challenging seas, and varied conditions from the Channel Islands to Mexico's Sea of Cortez. This environment has taught us what makes a great cruising catamaran, and it's why we're so passionate about the Excess line.
For environmental context and route planning, we often recommend reviewing Channel Islands National Park resources alongside local marine forecasts.
Through our partnerships with Naos Yachts on the West Coast and Sail Tahiti in French Polynesia, we're able to offer potential owners the opportunity to experience Excess catamarans in real sailing conditions before making their decision.
Top tip
Considering an Excess catamaran? Take advantage of charter opportunities
through our partners. There's no substitute for spending time aboard in real
cruising conditions. It's one of the best investments you can make in your
decision-making process.
What Makes Excess Different
If you're new to the brand, you might wonder what sets Excess apart in the crowded catamaran market. The answer lies in their design philosophy: refuse to compromise between performance and comfort.
Many cruising catamarans prioritize space and stability at the expense of sailing performance. Others focus on speed but sacrifice liveability. Excess catamarans are engineered to deliver both—sleek lines that cut through water efficiently, innovative layouts that maximize space without adding weight, and construction quality that inspires confidence in any conditions.
The range progression is thoughtful too. The Excess 11 offers surprising capability for its 36-foot length, perfect for couples or small families. The Excess 13 (42 feet) adds more volume and options without losing that sporty character. And the Excess 14 (45 feet) brings blue-water capability while maintaining the DNA that makes these boats so engaging to sail.

Have a story to share about your Excess catamaran experience? Thinking about joining the Excess community? Contact us—we'd love to hear from you and potentially feature your story in an upcoming article.
We publish one comprehensive article per week, focused on practical buyer guidance, California cruising, and real Excess ownership decisions. This cadence helps us build useful topic clusters instead of one-off posts, so readers can move from research to action with confidence.
Where should I start if I am comparing Excess models?
Start with our Excess model comparison guide, then review ownership planning to align model choice with budget and usage. After that, a short consultation through our contact page helps validate your shortlist against your home marina and cruise plans.
Can I request a topic or ask a question for a future article?
Yes. Send your topic request through our contact page, and we regularly turn reader questions into new posts. Questions about routes, ownership costs, and model fit are especially helpful because they support the wider community.
Do your articles focus more on beginners or experienced sailors?
We write for both, but many posts are structured for first-time catamaran buyers who want clear next steps. Experienced sailors still benefit from local California insights, event context, and model-specific ownership guidance.
How should I use the blog when planning a purchase?
Use the blog in sequence: start with comparison content, then read ownership-cost and itinerary guides, and finally speak with our team. This flow helps you make decisions based on real usage patterns rather than only brochure specifications.
Where can I find upcoming events after reading the blog?
Visit our events page for current show and demo opportunities, then connect with us for recommendations based on your goals. We can help you prioritize events that are most useful for model comparison and onboard experience.
Fair winds and following seas!
